EAST ACEH

Aceh Timur (East Aceh) is located between Aceh Utara and the province of North Sumatra. With a population of about 700,000 people, this region is probably the second most populated in Aceh. Acehnese is the main ethnic group living in the area but there are also Gayo people inland and Tamiang on the coastal areas to the south. The local economy is dominated by agriculture, especially rice and plantations.

PLACES OF INTEREST

Kuala Beukah Beach

This beach is used as a meeting place by fishermen specializing in catching lobsters for breeding. The price of an A class lobster can reach $65. Lobsters are sold directly to the breeders living near the beach. This beach is located in Peureulak district and is very busy on Sundays and public holidays.

Idi Cut Beach

Idi Cut beach is a recreational resort on the Malacca Strait. The sand on the beach is brownish. It is good place to sunbathe, swim, etc. The beach is in Matang Ulim.

Hot water spring

This hot water spring can be found in Kampung Jawa. It is suitable for swimming and leisure and is often busy.

Waterfalls

There is a waterfall in Manyak Payed. There is a nice view and it is good for bathing. It is busy on Sundays and public holidays.
There is another waterfall, 10mt high in Paya Tampah village and is also popular with the locals.

Buluh Mountain Waterfall

This waterfall is located in Alue Gantung village and can be reached by public transport. This site has natural cold water that flows through the stones. It is a popular spot for the local people for swimming and relaxing.

Geulumpang Indah Beach

This beach is one of the main tourist attractions in East Aceh. It is situated in Julok district. The beach can easily be reached by public transport.

Kuala Raja Muda

Kuala Raja Muda is a recreational resort at Manyak Payed.

Islamic Sultans Graves

Many Sultans were buried at this site, where the Islamic Kingdom was first established. The graves are found in Bandrong village, 7 km from Peureulak. Local people often visit these graves on holidays.
